Keenan Rail Depot
This building was moved to Montgomery several years ago, but originated in Keenan. Keenan was established in 1906 on what is now FM 2854 and the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe railroad line. At the time, it was the Gulf, Colorado, and Santa Fe line and the settlement was named for W.S. Keenan, passenger agent of the railroad. The community sprang up as a shipping point for the timber industry. After the sawmill closed in the 1930s, the local population declined significantly.
Of course, most of the rural parts of Montgomery County have again seen a surge in development, but the community of Keenan has not re-emerged.
