Old methodist church & cemetery
In 1838, Methodist affairs in Texas were under the supervision of the Mississippi Conference and four preachers were sent to the Texas District. Isaac L.G. Strickland was sent to Montgomery, but his territory covered all the land between the Brazos and Trinity rivers.
The first Methodist Church in the county was organized in Montgomery and a church building was built on a piece of land set aside when the town was laid out in 1838. In 1842, it was voted to build a parsonage, which was said to be the first parsonage built in Texas. The church bell was bell was a gift from Peter J. and Richard Willis, important merchants in Montgomery.
The present church was constructed in 1908 and was recorded as a state historic landmark in 2008.
